Jeanette's Bakery

   Jeanette’s Bakery and Café is 1,200 sq.ft. building located in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The client wanted help designing a bakery in a 30’ x 40’ footprint. They specialized in cake decorating and catering for large events and weddings, so a spacious kitchen that focused on functionality was incredibly important to the success of the design. They also wanted to create an attractive lobby area that provided a comfortable social space for the public to enjoy their freshly baked goods and coffee. The design concept was to mix the elegance and class of the weddings the company serves with coziness of an old-school, industrial coffee shop that would entice the business of the locals. Key rooms that the client required also included an ADA compliant bathroom, a break room for staff and office area, a janitorial closet, and a sperate room for trash and recycling that provides easy removal. 

 To accommodate the needs of the workers, the kitchen is created with plenty of space for movement and traffic. Appliances used in the space includes a large 48” gas range with two ovens, along with a double wall oven to enable the baking of multiple items at once. There will also be two work sinks, a full-sized freezer and walk-in fridge for cake storage. One fixed island will center the kitchen and provide sufficient workspace for cake designers. Another movable island will hold the microwave, space mixer and other tools. 

  The architectural elements within the space consists of many classical attributes such as rounded arches, crown molding and Greek motifs. The classical attribute help to give an elegant appearance that reflects the wedding cakes that the bakery is famous for. The finishes and furniture within the space takes on a more youthful and industrial feel by incorporating materials like wood, steel, stone, and glass.
