Tanda Smith reached out for help coming up with ideas for a kitchen remodel. We met at the house to take measurements and discuss design options. She had picked out a flooring option and was considering changing her current cabinet layout to make room for an island.
Moving the pantry to the laundry room and continuing to add cabinets to that space will allow more room for an island in the kitchen, and it will allow for the laundry room to be redesigned into a better utility space with a sink and extra storage.
However, after reviewing the design, it was determined that the kitchen does not allow enough space to adequately use the island for storage and seating. Attempting to keep the island in the space would interfere with appliance openings, working spaces, and walkways.
Rather than attempting to fit an island in a crammed space, this design follows the peninsula design of the current layout, only the peninsula extends further down the wall. The wall by the fridge will be torn out and replaced with pantries to give the fridge a built-in appearance.
This kitchen layout is the most efficient in meeting all the client’s needs. It provides an efficient work triangle between cooking stations while also allowing adequate walking space through the kitchen and room for seating. It also allows room for a full pantry in the kitchen and more storage space.
The laundry area in this design pushes the washer and dryer into a one wall utility space with a sink and cabinet storage. The utility space is shrunk down to provide a seating bench and coat hanger that sits next to the door to the garage.
The master bathroom of the Babcock house includes a walk-in closet that is approximately 98”x 66”. Upon having the floors replaced in various parts of the house, Laura had decided to use extra flooring material on the closet, which would mean tearing out the current closet systems to get to the floor.
While looking at ideas of a new closet system we narrowed down the needs for the closet such as drawers, hanging space, and shoe storage. The first design was priced out using the Dakota Closet Systems then presented to the Babcocks. After discussing ideas and reviewing any changes, the final plan was drawn up and priced out through the Grid Closet Systems. They were then ordered and installed. The wall mounted closet system allows for easy cleaning and extra space for storage baskets. There are five clothes rods for storing clothes, eight drawers for storing accessories, six shelves for shoe storage, and a large corner shelf for miscellaneous items.
